Daniel Graumenz, looking younger than his 19 years, sat alone Tuesday at the defendants’ table in the locked courtroom of Kenosha County intake court.
Graumenz, of Wheatland, is one of the three latest people to be charged in connection with the Huffhines family’s alleged black-market THC vape manufacturing and sales business, along with 23-year-old Tarail King of Racine, one of two making their initial appearances on the charges.
Unlike the other six defendants charged in the case so far, Graumenz arrived in court without a private attorney. The teen did not qualify for a public defender and had not hired a lawyer.
Special prosecutor Leslie Boese asked that Graumenz be held on $10,000 bond.
“He not only admitted to filling cartridges as part of this enterprise but also admitted to storing them,” she said.
Boese said the teen had no past criminal record.
Because there was no defense attorney representing him, Commissioner Larry Keating asked Graumenz if he had anything he wanted to say about bond.
“I’ve got a job. … I live with my mom. I don’t even do drugs,” Graumenz said. “I request that the bond be lower.”
Keating set the bond at $10,000, telling Graumenz he would have until 4 p.m. to pay, but would otherwise have to turn himself in to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department to be taken to jail.
“Do you believe you will be able to post it?” Keating asked.
“I’m not sure,” said Graumenz, who is charged with two felonies — maintaining a drug trafficking place and manufacture of THC over 10,000 grams.

Bond set for worker
King, who also arrived out of custody, faces more charges than anyone else charged in the case. He is charged with seven drug-related felonies, one more than Tyler Huffhines, the alleged ringleader of the operation.
Boese said King is alleged to have been paid by Tyler Huffhines to transport THC wax Huffhines bought in California and Colorado back to Wisconsin. She said a confidential informant has also said King made deliveries of vapes to Chicago. She asked that his bond be set at $25,000
King’s defense attorney called the state’s bond demands excessive, saying King has been cooperating with the state.
“We’ve had multiple meetings with Ms. Boese,” said attorney Jonathan Lavoy. He said King is a recent graduate of Carthage College and has no criminal history.
Keating set King’s bond at $10,000. King posted bond shortly after his appearance.
King and Graumenz are among eight people charged in relation to the alleged Huffhines business.
